GCSE Physics - Essential Calculations

Calculations 3

22 marks over 12 questions.
You'll need a calculador.
1. a) What is the time period of a wave with frequency 50Hz? [2]
b) What is the frequency of a wave with time period 0.2 seconds? [2]
2. a) How fast does a wave with frequency 20 Hz and wavelength 0.5 metres travel? [2]
b) What is the wavelength of a wave with frequency 90 Hz and speed 45 m/s? [2]
3. a) How much work is done if a rock is pushed three metres with force 40 N? [2]
b) How far could you push this rock with 360 J of energy? [2]
4. a) A 2 kg mass was thrown 2.4 m into the air.
What was the GPE of the mass at its peak?
Take gravity to be 98 N/kg, and give your answer to 2.s.f.
[2]
b) When another mass was thrown into the air, it peaked at 2 m with 100 J of GPE. To 2.s.f., what was its mass? [2]
5. a) A 1950 kg car is traveling at 42 m/s.

Give the full kinetic energy in joules.
[2]
b) ...and again in megajoules, to 2.s.f. [2]
6. A fan transfers 3.2 kJ of energy every 50 seconds.
What is the power output of the fan?
[2]
Well Done!

If you've just done all three of these lucky dip calculation tests, you can consider yourself a great reviser of Physics.

Don't worry too much about your up and coming exam - practice makes perfect!

If you don't consistently get scores above 95% on these tests, learn from your mistakes and try again!
